What's Going on in Our Classroom ?
Literacy- During the first month of school our class will be establishing clear routines that will help develop our test taking and writing skills. We will engage in several writing exercises and well as lessons on the fundamentals of good writing. Our class will also take a series of baseline assessments so that we an work towards the common core standards and college readiness.
Students will begin the vocabulary intervention with the beginning of the Target Word Weekly Routines.
The first unit of study will focus on conflict and argumentative writing. The unit will use the novel "Hush" by Jaqueline Woodson to explore conflict, perspective, societal issues, and argument provoking topics.
Social Studies- During the month of September our class will be exploring the journey of the first Americans and many European explorers as they uncover the American continent centuries ago. These individuals changed the way we look at our country and its history. Students will begin their two year study of U.S History that will culminate in grade 8 with the U.S History Regents Exam.
